News: 3 More Unicorn Charms & a Cookie-less Christmas

If your first reaction to this news is, “Where have you been for the last month, Dan?” then you and I feel similarly.

Though it’s been nearly a month since Lucky Charms introduced three new colorways to their equestrian arsenal of marshmallows, I only found out about them last night.

Why? Because I a) did not have cable TV access to see the commercial made for the unicorn ‘mallows (until last night), and b) despite Lucky Charms tweeting about these several times with a borderline worrying primal enthusiasm, my brain had grown accustomed to finding out about new cereal happenings before they hit corporate social streams, and thus cognitively overlooked it.

I don’t feel too bad about falling behind the times—after all, it’s new marshmallows, not a mythical Fluffernutter Lucky Charms—but nevertheless: gaze upon Lucky’s sugariest steeds of legend! These unicorns can be found in every existing flavor of Lucky Charms, continuing the brand’s commitment to the fancy new unicorn marshmallow.

We’ve seen new Charm colors come and go already, but I’d really like to see them do new moons and shooting stars—you know, just in case there’s a Freeze-Dried Ice Cream & Tang Lucky Charms coming down the pipeline.

In far sadder cereal news, General Mills covertly shared on Twitter that Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch will be skipping this holiday season. This is quite the baffling move, considering how much clamor there was in years past to bring the stuff back, which finally happened last year.

I can’t pretend to understand corporate strategy, but I’m hoping this is a strategic move to launch a wholly and grainily new Yuletide Lucky Charms. My heart is always with Gingerbread, but I’d even take Eggnog or Cornish Game Hen.

Just…please…anything but Snickerdoodle. Cinnamon seems to be the easy in for cereal companies nowadays, and I only have so many adjectives to review them with.

(Two. I have two. Sweet and Cinnamon-y)

  1. Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch is available at Wal-Mart and at my Giant Eagle. General Mills did not skip it this year. Have you seen it?
