Hot Cocoa Cocoa Puffs Cereal Holiday

Merry October, everyone!

I love seeing all my favorite holiday decorations out on lawns already: the jack-o-lanterns people put on top of their trees, Rudolph the Red-Eyed Werewolf, and Santa’s iconic wife: Mrs. Freddy Krueger.

To celebrate the Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Krampus Day/general merriment season that is totally already here, General Mills is already shipping out two new holiday cereals to Target and other stores.

First is Hot Cocoa Cocoa Puffs. Consider this one filed away in my “How The Heck Did This Not Happen 10 Years Ago” drawer: marshmallows and Cocoa Puffs seems like a no-brainer, especially after the deliciousness of Count Chocula and Chocolate Lucky Charms. Cocoa Puffs Treats cereal bars have blended Sonny’s choco-corn orbs (chocorbs, for short) with fluffy sugar before to great success, so I’m glad to finally see it come full circle.

Err, full snowball marshmallow, I mean.

No word on whether the Puffs here will be flavored different to match the smoky richness of real hot cocoa, but considering how my childhood self used to stupidly think hot cocoa was made by microwaving chocolate milk, Hot Cocoa Cocoa Puffs have to at least be better than that. Though I may try microwaving them.

Next is Cinnamon Vanilla Lucky Charms. This one feels more groundbreaking, Aside from cult-classic Cinnamon Marshmallow Scooby-Doo Cereal, cinnamon and marbits rarely get to a share the spotlight.

I expect Lucky’s fare to taste like a big ol’ bowl of snickerdoodles—or at least Scooby-SnickerDoodles. That mischievous little leprechaun hasn’t let me down yet, even though the marshmallows in this one look like lens flares and Disney mushrooms.

Conspicuously missing from General Mills’ holiday cereal lineup is the Cinnamon Toast Crunch family of products. While previous years have given us Sugar Cookies and Cinnamon Stars, the mythical Gingerbread Toast Crunch that I’ve eternally pined for is still nowhere to be seen.

Fine, General Mills: I’ll let this one go if you just give us Eggnog Toast Crunch instead.

  1. Found the Hot Cocoa Cocoa Puffs at Target! Delicious! More, uh, hot cocoa flavor, not overly sweet marshmallows, very good cereal.

  2. You know, when my brother and I were kids we contemplated the conundrum of Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy:
We were fully aware you couldn’t have TWO fruit flavor cereals tasting almost exactly the same (understand we never even considered two significant fruit flavors). So our solution was to make Fruit Brute the Fruit cereal and retool Yummy Mummy into Cinna Mummy!!! That’s what THIS is gunna be!!!!

  3. Wow, first Gingerbread Life cereal, and now these two cereals? This will be a happy holiday ahead. Can’t wait to try these. Hopefully, the lot of us can actually find these at our local supermarkets. I know some many of these special edition cereals come and go and a lot of people never see them on the shelves.

  4. These look pretty good actually! More so than Sugar Cookie Crisp. Sugar Cookie Crisp was alright but kind of bland. It will be tough to beat Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch, but I’ll take what I can get. Maybe we’ll get a surprise announcement of Gingerbread Toast Crunch or Snickerdoodle Holiday Cookie Crisp. Hope springs eternal.
