Even though our swimming pools are still uncovered and the smell of sunscreen still wafts delicately through the air, stores are rolling out the recognizable tastes of fall in every product imaginable (I expect even cat litter and shoe polish to be autumn-ified this year). And the two most popular flavors, pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon, could soon be in your cereal bowl, too.

The first of the two cereals from Kellogg’s (apparently good ol’ K-Loggs is driving the flavor buzzword bandwagon this season) is Pumpkin Spice Mini-Wheats. According to the Kellogg’s Family Rewards site, “this limited edition has eight layers of wheat and one layer of sweet cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and ginger. Grab a box before it’s gone!”

I’m wondering how well these traditionally spicier flavors will translate to a sweet medium. Pumpkin is a largely unfamiliar medium for cereal (though last year’s Pumpkin O’s from Trader Joe’s were a delightful, albeit lightly flavored and very oat-heavy, attempt), but if any cereal can represent such an earthy, farm-fresh flavor, it’s the one that already looks like crunchy little bales of hay.

On the other hand, cinnamon and apples are fairly well explored territory in the cereal aisle, with the radioactive green boxes of delicious Apple Jacks serving as clear evidence of this fact. But for those looking to satisfy their craving with something perhaps a bit more wholesome, there’s new Special K Apple Cinnamon Crunch.

The site’s description is even more brief, simply claiming that the cereal has “the delicious taste of spicy cinnamon and sweet apples.” Interesting. I just wonder whether I’ll be able to bob for Apple Cinnamon Special K without passerby judging me for forcefully shoving my face in a bowl of milk.

Currently, the cereals seem to be in limited distribution (readers of The Impulsive Buy have spotted both cereals at Stop & Shop stores), but as soon as we can, Cerealously will have the full scoop. Or at least the full spoonful.

Which one are you excited for? Have you tried either? Or are you just sick of pumpkin spice-mania (seriously, it’s like the Minions of product flavors)? Let us know in the comments below.
