News: Tropical Froot Loops Hit America + Cookies & Creme Krispies Aren’t Far Behind

Someone ask Gordon Ramsay for his best Caribbean fusion recipes, because in his words: “finally, some good f***ing food.”

The American debut of Tropical Froot Loops is incredible for two reasons: first, this originally Mexico-exclusive menagerie of looped Pineapples, Bananas, Oranges & Mangoes is so good that it seemed destined to be just the latest in a long line of creative breakfast explorations that never hit the U.S. Second, Froot Loops has been consistently missing the mark with its recent releases, so the introduction of what we can assume is the same winning formula (containing all kinds of rarely-seen-in-cereal fruit flavors) from south of the border is cause for celebration.

I swear, if Kellogg’s finds a way to bungle the best bits of Tropical Froot Loops during the cereal localization process, I’ll be giving my box a viking funeral.

American Tropical Froot Loops have already been spotted at Albertsons-owned grocery chains; thanks to Candy Hunting for this tip.

We also have Candy Hunting to thank for news of Cookies & Creme Krispies. I’ll admit that these are far less exciting than the Froot Loops, especially since 2017’s Cookies & Creme Rice Krispies Treats—which already have more sugar and marshmallowy goodness than any cereal could—were forgettably underwhelming. Granted, I’ve never been the biggest fan of Krispies, Pebbles, or any other cereal so airy it disintegrates before impacting my appetite, so my pessimism toward Cookies & Creme Krispies may be jaded and unfounded.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see whether Snap, Crackle & Pop’s Faux-reo Cookie facade holds up to squinted taste bud scrutiny.

  1. ive seen the cookie & creme keispies on store shelves here in NJ. but no luck yet with Tropical Froot Loops which i really wanna try. Anyone slotted them in stores yet? if so, where?

    • Same here. I’ve seen the cookies & creme krispies, which were just okay. I haven’t seen these yet either and I’m in central NJ. Hopefully, they’ll be on shelves at ShopRite or Target next week. I saw on The Impulse Buy website that there were spotted on shelves at a market chain not located in the northeast. So at least they got released and were spotted on the shelves somewhere. That’s a start.

  2. I recently started listening to The Empty Bowl. In the first few episodes you two talk about Tropical Froot Loops, and I’ve spent the past five days desperately searching the internet for a box. I can find obscure Indonesian snacks within minutes, but a Mexican cereal, non existent. Now, here they are, in the US, and it hasn’t even been a week since I’ve learned of their existence. A beautiful ray of tropical sunshine in the desolate wasteland that has been 2020.
