News: Waffle Crisp has been Discontinued

Waffle-Crisp-RIP

1996-2018

(EDIT: As of January 2020, Waffle Crisp has again been spotted in America. So far, in bagged form at Walmart!)

Oof.

This one hurts.

No one ever thinks they’ll outlive their favorite cereals. After all, for many of us, the iconic flavors and mascots that built the breakfast aisle, from Cheerios to Frosted Flakes, have existed since we were born and strongly endured as mythical presences through the golden graces of youth.

If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a pantheon of cereal characters to build a childhood.

And for me, one of those most trusted breakfast table companions was Waffle Crisp. Where others have fond loaven recollections of French Toast Crunch, my maple memories are less Francophilic and more Belgicious. Though my Belgian heritage may be to thank, the miniature waffles’ sticky sweet maple syrup glaze really filled heart with joy—much like real syrup cascading into a freshly ironed waffle’s checkered pockets.

Oh, and the iconic smell that precedes the cereal, filling any kitchen, conservatory, or football stadium where the box is opened? I need it in cologne form, yesterday.

That’s why I chose Waffle Crisp for my first ever “Classic Review,” and it’s why I nearly shed a single, amber tear when hearing from fan Sydney N. that he spotted the cereal on Post’s discontinued products page.

(Waffle) battered and heartbroken, I reached out to Post, hoping this listing was just some horrible prank pulled by Dr. Burnt Toast, to get back at the wonderful Waffle Boy, but their customer service team confirmed my fears.

Yes, Waffle Crisp has been discontinued. It’s a sad day, especially when Post has been cranking out a number of great cereals lately. Waffle Crisp has already been difficult for many to find in the last few years, but with the cereal’s (literally) rich, Eggo-topping 20+ year history, it would be especially sad if the success of Oreo O’s and its ilk was what pushed Waffle Boy off shelves.

All hope might not be lost, of course: those of lucky enough to have reliable WC access can stock up while we can, and despite this news, Post’s extremely similar Good Morenings Waffle Crunch cereal—whose in-store availability, appropriately, also waffles—hasn’t been officially discontinued yet [EDIT: I’m told this has also been discontinued 🥺].

So while the flavor may persevere, and while old cereals make fan-requested comebacks all the time (I hope they bring the grandmas back too in 20 years, and maybe a Pancake Crisp variant while they’re at it), I guess I’ll have to eat a bowl of Maple Cheerios in respectful solidarity, recognizing that my youthful maple tastes have to grow up a little. And add a little fiber too.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t leave this article with one last elegy for my departing friend:
Oh, Waffle Boy, the Post, the Post is calling
From bowl to bowl, and down the pantry side.
The syrup’s gone, and all the milk is sogging,
It’s you, it’s you must go and I must crunch alone.

  1. NOOOOOOO, I’ve spent my entire afternoon searching my city for this cereal! Just to see this article and know it was discontinued I’m so sad!

  2. Waffle crisp is the greatest cereal ever made hands-down bar none the best I’m sadly going to miss waffle crisp cereal I’m definitely going to miss the smell and even more the case I hope y’all can reverse the decision and put my waffle crips back on the shelves in stores again before I get old and whither away

  3. My partner loved waffle crisp and so it was always on my grocery list. And then suddenly, we just couldn’t find it anywhere!!! When it stopped being sold in the states, it took foreign markets a while to go through their stock. But suddenly this week, with strange supplier changes, a bunch of previously unavailable waffle crisp boxes were shelved at my local market. So in case anyone is interested, apparently we have it here.

  4. Best cereal to ever be created. I will pay whatever you want, Post. Bring it back even for a limited time so I can buy a thousand boxes. Pleeeaasseee…

  5. This cereal is the best cereal ever. I miss it so much I emailed Post asking them to bring it back – y’all should too maybe they’ll do it if they get enough emails :’D

  6. Post, bring this cereal to Canada. Last time I had a bowl was in New Hampshire in 2005 and I’ve even thought of doing a cereal run to Bangor, Maine if necessary to get this and other cereals we can’t get here. Lately, though we’ve been lucky to have Chips Ahoy on the shelves so all is not lost.

    • Please Bring This Cereal Back. I Have Eatin It Since I Was A Little Kid, I Had My Daughter And She Grew Up Eating It, We Now Can’t Find It Anywhere. Please Put It Back On The Shelf!!

    • So I’ve been angry bout this for too long now as the Oklahoma market lost their fair share of waffle crisps way early compared to some of these bigger markets! Beyond ridiculous. Post literally went “well how can we lose our biggest customer base…. oh how bout we get rid of waffle crisp“ and some Moron at corporate agreed to it while he was eating waffle crisp I’m sure. Cause if you work at post you best be killing waffle crisp. The world has gone mad I’m telling you. I’ll miss my crunchy friend. This is unlawful I I tell ya. No morals

  7. Please reconsider by putting this cereal back on the shelf. Name one cereal out there that taste better than this one…NONE. This is a high demand product that we need in all grocery stores.

  8. I found General Mills French Toast Crunch to be a very close second to Waffle Crisp – I recommend giving it a try if you have been missing that crunchy maple taste 🙂

    • I just discovered the ultimate cereal in the universe has been DISCONTINUED!!??!? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?? I WANT ANSWERS, WHY? WHY WOULD THEY MAKE SUCH AN AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL MISCALCULATION??? I AM DISCOMBOBULATED, I FEEL LIKE MAKING MY WAY TO THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND HAVING A FACE TO FACE WITH THE ABSOLUTE FOOL OF A MAN WHO HAS RUINED THE REST OF MY LIFE. FIRST PLANTERS DISCONTINUES P.B CRISPS AND NOW THIS??? WHAT DO I HAVE TO LIVE DOR? YEAH I STILL HAVE MY CHILDREN BUT WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO EAT NOW?? WE AREN’T RICH PEOPLE, WE CANT AFFORD FANCY VACATIONS OR EXPENSIVE CLOTHES BUT WE HAD ONE JOY ON THIS EARTH AND NOW IT HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM US. You truly don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, RIP WAFFLE CRISP

  9. This is very sad. I will not accept it!! My family and I love this cereal!! I literally got some of this for Valentine’s Day. Don’t judge. It’s something that I mentioned a long time ago but my hunny remembered.

    Dear Post,

Why’d you do this to us? It’s cruel. Everyone loves this cereal!! I’d rather only eat this cereal. It saddens my heart to hear about this. I thought it was just because it wasn’t being sold at a store that I went to. I didn’t realize that you discontinued it. Please rethink your decision. Please let it come back. We support you Waffle Boy!! Waffle Boy Matters Too!!

  10. I don’t know what to do, I heard the news a while ago but chose to live in denial, every time I shop I peek at the area it SHOULD be telling myself it’s just “out of stock” or not available at this location. I had heard it was finished but refused to compute, reading this has me facing the light of day and no one wants to have to do that. They have to realize there was AND IS a loyal following?!? Post, listen here, this isn’t a threat but if Waffle Crisp doesn’t come home we are going to have some real problems. I’ll take these good morenings crunch jobbers if I have to but to just abandon us?? Absurd and cruel.
Please hear us, our cries in the dark, please…

  11. My kids loved this great cereal almost as much as I did…I call once a month asking them to bring it back. If enough people call they will bring it back. My reasoning with them is to say that there is no other cereal remotely like it and it would be a great “Retro” sell…help me bring it back!! We can do it!

  12. Honestly the best cereal with or without milk. I cant believe it’s gone. What will I feed my kids now this was all they liked.

  13. Please please please bring waffle crisp back! I seriously want to cry.. it was one of my favorite childhood memories I absolutely love waffle crisp and there is no other cereal like it. I’m not sure what I have to do but I’ll do whatever to bring this amazing cereal back 🙁 🙁

  14. I spent almost 30 minutes in a supermarket and it wasn’t until i got home and seen this that i’ve learned such sad news.THIS CEREAL MADE MY CHILDHOOD. MY FATHER BOUGHT ME THIS CEREAL AND HE PASSED IN AUGUST. I CAN’T REMINISCE ANY LONGER 🙁 AND I’M NOT DEALING WITH IT WELL

  15. I grew up eating Waffle Crisps. Just last week I was wandering through the cereal aisle hoping to find a box. They just struck my mind and I decided to give them a Google. RIP Waffle Crisp. You sparked me joy as a child in the grocery store.

  16. We had purchased 5 or 6 boxes last fall (great sale and coupons at that time), so we just found out about the discontinued Waffle Crisp recently. In fact, our favorite grocery store still maintained a space on the shelf for quite a while, even though the space was empty. It wasn’t until we had used up all of our storage that the shelf space went away. Oh, Oh! Something’s up. Then we found your web site and were filled with dismay knowing that Waffle Crisp had, indeed, been DC’d.. There is some comfort knowing that there others commiserating with us.

  17. Ugh! Waiting for the milk to turn tan-ish and get gritty. Waiting til they were saturated with milk and then pressing the pieces against the bowl with the spoon to drain them. Biting the pieces with your teeth so as to split them! HOW can they be discontinuing them?

  18. I AM TRULY IN DISBELIEF OF THIS I ONLY EAT ONE KIND OF CEREAL AND YOU ALL GO AND DISCONTINUE THE ONE KIND POST I’M UPSET THIS IS CRAZY. PLEASE BRING THEM BACK I CAN THINK OF A MILLION OTHER NASTY CEREALS YOU ALL CAN TAKE OFF THE MARKET.
    WHO IDEA WAS THIS?

  19. I love love love waffle crisp best cereal ever place bring it back I can’t find it anywhere. I can eat a whole box to myself and go buy other box the same day. Along with rice crispy treat cereal

  20. I suspect that the bottom line profit margin is more important than customer support of a wonderful product from Post. Sign of the time.

  21. I’m from Malaysia believe it or not, and i am today years old to find that Waffle Crisp has been discontinued D’:
I even ask my distributor why are they none in stock, she mentioned, “It’s hard to get stock”….little did i know they were already discontinued by the time i asked

  22. Actually, I contact Post about Good Morenings a couple months ago and it has officially been discontinued.

So this is actually a complete disaster… 🙁

  23. wish I knew about this yesterday. I just bought 2 boxes for 1.99 each at IGA. Would have purchased more had I been aware it was being discontinued for good

hopefully another store I might go to tomorrow will have some left

  24. great… first i was really happy to have brought back “Honey Graham O’hs” before they changed them, but now… now i see myself in front of all the cereal boxes at walmart and thinking “should i buy waffle crisp or honey graham o’s…
now both would’ve been the perfect answer… -.-

you cant have all, but it’s a damn item on my cereal bucket list i can’t cross off.

That said: How similar are the “Good Morenings”? It always seemed to be the cereal, that was advertised as the “better choice” aka “healthier version” aka “less sweet”.
Is it true or are they really the same and you can’t taste a difference?

    CHEERS!

  25. Been impossible to find in Los Angeles for ages. Very sad. One of my 2 absolute favorite cereals. An incredible transcendent cereal. Terrile news
