Rumor Mill: Malt-O-Meal Blueberry Muffin Toasters?

Blueberry Muffin Tops 2019? Malt-O-Meal Blueberry Muffin Toasters Cereal

You ever have a day that keeps on giving?

And not only in sporadic bursts of sunny feelings, but in a systematic and exponentially improving sense?

I awoke today planning only to share the duel of wills that occured between me and Blue-Eyes White Dragon Cereal. And then I was gobsmacked by a Reddit tip about larvae-shaped Twinkies Cereal.

And now, after following the Twinkies lead shared by /r/YukiHase (thanks again!), I’ve struck sapphire. This something more potent than a Blue-Eyes Blast, and more nostalgic than a Twinkie and four Ghostbusters.

It’s a potential successor to Malt-O-Meal Blueberry Muffin Tops.

If there’s one cult classic cereal I firmly believe deserves its loyal following, it’s this. While I haven’t been the most vocal advocate for BMT’s ressurection (probably because its acronym makes me think of Subway salami), I know many people who remember the cereal cerebrally dearly…including my Empty Bowl co-host Justin, whose contribution to Blueberry Muffin Tops’ legacy should warrant a polished cerulean statue and a garden of sugared hydrangeas:

But I’m blue-burying the lead. Above is the only photo I can find of a Malt-O-Meal Blueberry Muffin Toasters Cereal, and though it may be blurry, the specific nutrition facts make me think it’s legit—plus a) the pivot from Tops to Toasters would make sense, since Malt-O-Meal likes expanding their current lines, and b) M-O-M French Toasters have been reported as discontinued very recently, leaving a new variety slot wide open.

If this ends up hitting shelves (which is a nigh-certain qualifications I have to give after other Post cereals never made it past blurry concept art), I don’t necessarily want to say The Empty Bowl helped bring back Blueberry Muffin Tops—see Justin’s recollection of the BMT community breakfast during Episode Eleven—but hey, please just let us (mostly him) have this one.

Because maybe we can spin this into lucrative careers as Cereal Necromancy Consultants.

  1. These are indeed real. While at a residential treatment center as a child, they would serve the 1 serving ones. People would get in fights over these! They are AMAZING.

  2. I was very disappointed when I couldn’t find French toasters anymore =(

However; hearing that one of my all time favorite childhood cereals might be returning has just made my day!

Great site by the way, I’ve been silently following since the beginning!
