Spooned & Spotted: Kellogg’s Frozen Cereal (2016)

IMG_0522Really? Another movie cereal with oat pieces and marshmallows? I understand the desire to stick to traditions, but c’mon, Kellogg’s, can’t you just…let it go?

I apologize if I’ve made that awful joke before, but to be honest, I’ve never seen Frozen, so any jokes I make about it will have to be based off of that single song I know from the movie. I guess when it comes to that particular joke, I just can’t let it go.

Someone please stop me.

And while many cereal aisle regulars know that Frozen cereal has been around for awhile, these new boxes are a little bit different. The original cereal only contained blue and white snowball marshmallows (which Kellogg’s later reused in Froot Loops with Winter Blast Marshmallows, because when it comes to that style of marshmallow, they just couldn’t…you know where I’m going with this).

But this new box (the two images above are from a single box with different images on each side) that I say at Kroger also features swirling blue and purple snowflake marshmallows!

I don’t know if cosmetically different marshmallows will be enough to breathe new life into this cereal line, which also uses the same shape for its oat pieces as Jif cereal (maybe there’s hope for a peanut butter and jelly and marshmallow fluff cereal?). But what I do know is that the addition of “new marshmallows” instantly makes me think of this classic Simpsons scene.

  1. xD
Funny, i had the same scene in my mind after finally fidning “the waldo” (aka what exactly is new this time?) in the pic. ^^

But hey… i know people who want whale shaped marshmallows added back to lucky charms or want back fruit shaped trix, though they should taste the same, so there must be a reason for swirled marshmallows! 😉 xD
(don’t take this serious i’m just joking ^^)

btw: i was able to get my hands on a frozen cereal myself, while it was somehow sold out in one of our surplus stores (hope this reference is correct, wasn’t able to find out if you have something similar in the us were you can get items cheaper than normal, ’cause the best before date is near or the shop they used to be sold was damaged by water… and so on), and i know the cereal is from the UK (though it seems kelloggs is finally getting the cereal to germany with german text on the box) and our version does not contain any marshmallows (of course not, we don’t have that here… -.-), but the rice, wholegrain oat, maize cereals are flavored with vanilla (http://grocerygems.blogspot.de/2015/04/review-kelloggs-disney-frozen-cereal.html and http://www.kelloggs.co.uk/en_GB/kellogg-s-disney-frozen-cereal-product.html)
Question now: are the US Forzen cereals also vanilla flavored or just “plain” frosted oats like lucky charm oat pieces?
I’m asking, ’cause vanilla flavor is pretty hard to come by. It’s always honey, but not vanilla and in addition to the vanilla flavor it’s maize, rice and oat! I still need to try them, but it sounds so much like my kind of cereal and added marshmallows could be the only missing thing to absolute bliss xD

    • I won’t lie, I’ve never actually tried it so I can’t speak for the flavor. It just looked too boring to me. Also, on a side note, I’m surprised you haven’t chimed in yet on my review of Superman vs. Batman cereals! Superman’s caramel cereal is amazing, and I know you’re a caramel lover!

      • Fair enough. Wouldn’t have picked up the “Frozen” cereals myself. As i said, they just seem to be Lucky Charms in different shapes and with (now) fancier marshmallows.
But i’ll tell you how the EU version without marshmallows and vanilla flavor performs ^^

And: i’m soooooo sorry Dan! I’ve not that much time at the moment to write my always way too long comments (it always gets out of hand, when i start writing xD). But! i already read the review and man i can already say i’m sooooooooo jealous of the superman cereal. I mean, better than Cap’n Crunch’s Caramel Popcorn Crunch? This is probably MY cereal. ^^
