Super Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca!

Player 1, please press start. Because we’ve got a heck of a cereal adventure ahead of us.

But I’m not talking about Chex Quest—though I always wish that I am. No, I just want to share the latest videos from cereal high scorer Gabe Fonseca’s Cereal Time YouTube series. On every episode of Cereal Time, Gabe dives into his personal breakfast archives to share the history and continued legacy of cereals both famous and obscure.

And this time, he’s pulling an arcade cabinet classic out of his cereal cabinet.

The first video we’re sharing is about Pac-Man Cereal! There’s something so magical about video game cereals (it’s actually a topic I had the chance to write about recently!). Whether it’s the way they infuse neon-tinged nostalgia into every piece or the way their sugary taste pairs perfectly with secret late night gaming sessions—don’t crunch too loud, or Mom will hear—video game cereals are like distilled geometric bits of pure childhood. Four More from “Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca!”

Need something to Brite-n your day? Okay, do you need four things to brighten your day after that terrible pun?

Well you’re in luck, because there are four new episodes in cereal archivist Gabe Fonseca’s Cereal Time YouTube series. Longtime Cereal Time binge watchers know the drill, but I’ll catch everyone else up to speed on this series in one sentence:

One man spotlights one cereal every one week to produce three-to-four fun-filled minutes of breakfast nostalgia.

Intrigued? Let’s start somewhere over the rainbow with Gabe’s episode on Rainbow Brite Cereal. As he states in the video, this 1985 cereal was a tie-in with Rainbow Brite’s animated feature film, and it features a literal rainbow of fruity and crunchy…shapes?

The more logical would see them as Rainbow Brite’s hair curls or shirt sleeves, but I prefer to call them “Macaroni & cheese mixed with the colorful grubs Timon and Pumbaa eat in The Lion King.” Continue reading

Spooned & Spotted: WWE Booty-O’s Cereal

WWE Booty-O's Cereal

Who? Who? Who is ready to elbow drop into a bowl of the first wrestling cereal since 1991’s WWF Superstars?

That’s right: The New Day’s once fictitious Booty O’s cereal is now 100% real and “made with 100% positivity.” It’s available at FYE stores and FYE’s website for “only” $12.99 a box.

The cartoonized trio of Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods appears on the front of every box, while dance move instructions and a unicorn cutout populate the side and back, respectively. Inside, the cereal itself consists of crunchy oat triangles and a superstar marshmallow ensemble of “magic,” smiles, tag titles, unicorn horns, booty crowns, rainbow hearts, and, well: actual stars.

The cereal’s colorful look sure ain’t booty, but how does it taste? We’re going to tag in cereal title belt champion Gabe Fonseca for this one. The latest video in his Cereal Time YouTube series takes an in-depth look at Booty-O’s, complete with a taste test.

As Gabe states, the cereal isn’t entirely like Lucky Charms: the chunky oat pyramids are much denser and less delicious delicious than the pillowy bits you’ll find in Lucky the Leprechaun’s breakfast of choice. Apparently they taste similar to Kellogg’s recent movie tie-in cereals, like Finding Dory Cereal.

I will say, though, that the oat pieces look an awful lot like cute little Triforces. So if we’re ever blessed with another Legend of Zelda cereal, I hope these shapes make a reappearance.

Preferably not in “Fruity Octorok Flavor.”

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Mr. T Cereal and Donkey Kong Cereal!

I pity the fool who doesn’t enjoy cereal power player Gabe Fonseca’s Cereal Time: a YouTube series jam-packed with more nostalgia and whole grain than that creepy Chuck e. Cheese next to a corn field your parents never let you go to.

Regular Cerealously readers know that I like to do “watch-alongs” as new episodes of this series come out, and now there are two more to share with you. These two episodes are packed with even more ’80s throwbacks than usual, so chug an Ecto-Cooler and hold on to your Dunkaroos, because Gabe’s not messing around. Continue reading

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Kix, Chex, Tiny Toast, and Cap’n Crunch’s Orange Creampop Crunch!

Need a YouTube series that’s kid tested, mother approved, and berry berry nostalgic? Well look no further than cereal documentarian Gabe Fonseca’s Cereal Time! This series brings colorful cereals of the past, present, and future right to your computer screen, and we want to share Gabe’s latest bowlful of videos with you.

The first is all about Kix. Kix seems to be a wildly divisive cereal: in most cases, you either grew up with sugary cereal and found Kix too bland, or you weren’t allowed to have the sweet stuff and treated Kix like a glazed oasis. Gabe, like me, falls in the former camp, but that doesn’t stop him from showcasing all of Kix’s cool extinct mascots.

Somewhere, buried in the plateaus of Montana, are the fossilized remains of that toothy cartoon cow. Continue reading

What’s New on “Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca?”

Ready those recliners and steady your novelty wooden back scratchers, because we want to share another hearty bunch of videos from Gabe Fonseca’s Cereal Time YouTube series. Speaking of bunches, Gabe has covered everything from Honey Bunches to Cap’n Crunch.

His show gives a nostalgic and fun exposé on a different cereal each week. For cereal junkies like me, it’s more addicting than, well, a bowl of Reese’s Puffs.

While we’re on the topic of peanut butter and chocolate (and when aren’t we on the topic of the greatest flavor combination ever invented? A big thanks to George Washington Carver and Montezuma for making it possible), let’s start with Gabe’s first video on E.T. Cereal.

Anyone who has seen the movie E.T. knows that the titular alien’s favorite candy is Reese’s Pieces. As a result, his cereal was given the same flavors. As Gabe mentions, E.T.’s favorite candy was originally supposed to be M&M’s, but the rights couldn’t be secured. While I’m sad that the movie missed out on a lot of good “Mars” puns, I’m glad we got a more interesting cereal flavor out of the deal than boring ol’ chocolate.

Besides, M&M’s don’t hold up well in milk. Trust me: I know. Continue reading

Catching Up on Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca!

Put Netflix on pause, because w’ve got something better for you to binge watch than all 10 seasons of Friends for the third time this year.

See, it’s been a while since we visited cereal generalissimo Gabe Fonseca’s informative and nostalgic Cereal Time YouTube series. The show covers a different cereal each week, and it totally deserves to be nominated for a Tony award—a Tony the Tiger award, that is.

Speaking of which, the first of four videos we’d like to share with you features Gabe awarding his top ten cereals of all time. Unsurprisingly, there’s absolutely no overlap between Gabe’s list and my own list of favorite cereals. This is probably because of our age difference, but by viewing our two rankings, you can get a taste (well, at least a look. Lickable computer screens aren’t real yet, right?) of twenty different iconic cereals covering decades, if not centuries of colorful cereal history.

If nothing else, I do agree that Cap’n Crunch wins most iconic cereal mascot of all time. If the good Cap’n can defy physics and wear his eyebrows on his hat, he deserves to be #1 of something. Continue reading

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Cracklin’ Oat Bran and New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cereals

Quick: does the word “bran” fill you with a sense of fear, loathing, and disgust? If you answered “yes,” then you might be one of the many anti-branners out there who spurns cereals like Bran Flakes and Raisin Bran for being bland and boring.

As seen in the cereal’s first advertising campaign, Cracklin’ Oat Bran was made for such bran banners back in 1977. This is just one of the interesting historical factoids you can expect from cereal ninja Gabe Fonseca, who has two new episodes in his fun and informational Cereal Time YouTube series that we’d like to share with you.

There’s only one thing more addicting than watching Cereal Time, and that’s popping squares of Cracklin’ Oat Bran into your mouth like Macklemore pops tags (that’s the most modern reference I’ll make on this site, so enjoy it). That’s why it’s so appropriate that Cereal Time finally has an episode dedicated to these uniquely shaped and textured oat squares. Continue reading
