Spooned & Spotted: Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes with Marshmallows

_20160528_200347

(UPDATE: We reviewed Frosted Flakes with Marshmallows!)

Welcome to the future.

Marshmallows have invaded almost all of our classic cereals, from Froot Loops to Fruity Pebbles and now Frosted Flakes. What’s next, Limited Edition Lucky Charms with an additional marshmallow stuffed inside the center of every existing marshmallow?

I suppose I shouldn’t complain until I try these new Frosted Flakes with Marshmallows. They were spotted at Meijer by Owen C. (thanks, Owen!), along with Kellogg’s recently debuted Raisin Bran Granolas.

But enough about the cereal. Can we talk about that Tony the Tiger?  Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t really dig the outdated CGI look. This poor, polygonal Tony looks like he got lost on the way to a Jimmy Neutron audition.

More accurately, I’d say he belongs in a late generation Nintendo 64 platformer. That might not be a compliment to his looks, but hey: if we somehow get a cereal video game out of this deal, I’ll forgive Tony for his cringe-worthy tweets.

  1. What’s next, Limited Edition Lucky Charms with an additional marshmallow stuffed inside the center of every existing marshmallow?
A bit disappointed here dan! 😉
Since it’s all about adding Marshmallows to everything it would’ve been either: “Lucky’s Even More Charms!” with more marshmallows, marshmallows only (and we know GM already/finally did that!^^) or just plain normal… lucky’s 😉

    For the cornflakes/frosties cereal:
The “normal cornflakes” were the least cereal i would have thought of mixing with marshmallows… i can’t really see how both of those taste will fit together…
But those are normally the combinations that work better than the obvious ones (sometimes ;)), so i look forward to your review 🙂

And for tony: He looks like out of jimmy neutron,. but hey i think he still looks pretty good and the “rebranding”/”remoddeling” did him weather bad nor good. I mean compare him to Dig’em and Tony got the better treatment 😉

  2. Hate the idea. What is Kellogg’s deal with adding marshmallows to everything? Froot Loops, Apple Jacks…perfectly GREAT cereal that represent their flavors perfectly, mucked up by mallows. I had to be cynical, but I sort of think it’s a cost cutting situation.

All these spinoffs can’t possibly sell better than some of the cereals they’ve killed. I’d trade them all for Cinnamon Jacks.

    • Agreed. I have yet to find a “with marshmallows” spin-off I enjoyed more than the original. It would be a different story if Kellogg’s at least tried to use a fun marshmallow shape, instead of the same boring blue and white marbits they’ve recycled time and time again.

The skeleton marshmallows from this past Halloween were a good start, but it’s all been downhill since.
