Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Ghostbusters and Cabbage Patch Kids Cereal

When there’s something cool, in your breakfast pantry…who you gonna call?

Gabe Fonseca!

That’s right, cereal specialist Gabe Fonseca is back with two new videos in his Cereal Time YouTube series that we’d like to share with you. For the unfortunately uninitiated, Cereal Time covers a different retro, obscure, or legendary cereal each week, and each video is chock-full of fun and flavor (you’ll have to imagine the flavor; please don’t pour milk on your keyboard).

First up is Ghostbusters Cereal, a long-running movie tie-in cereal from Ralston that featured a host of different ghost prizes over the years, from Frisbees to a an actual Porsche.

As the video shows, the oats ‘n’ marshmallow cereal had tie-dye colored pieces in the shape of the iconic Ghostbusters “no” sign, but personally, I like to see them as more well-rounded Frute Brute pieces.

If nothing else, this video of Gabe’s is worth watching for the catchy Ghostbusters Cereal jingle alone. By the end of the day, my new ringtone will be “♫ Ghostbusters…with milk and juice and toast! ♫”

Gabe’s next video covers a cereal with a much less catchy, slightly creepier jingle, and an even creepier shape. It’s Cabbage Patch Kids cereal, a low in sugar cereal in the shape of smiling Cabbage Patch doll heads. As someone who’s always irrationally feared dolls and ventriloquist dummies, I’m kinda glad this cereal was discontinued.Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 12.26.57 PM

Just look at those cold, dead cereal eyes.

If Gabe’s first video was worth watching for the jingle, then this video is worth watching for the horrifically disturbing clip of an actual Cabbage Patch Kid’s birth. Nope: I’m not kidding.

Who needs sugary cereals when this one’s going to keep me up all night anyway?

If Gabe’s videos have you doing the cabbage patch dance in excitement, every Cereal Time video can be found here, and you can check out Gabe’s Twitter, as well.

  1. I left this screen open on the picture of the Cabbage Patch cereal and had forgotten about it, only to be mildly frightened when I reopened the screen on my computer and the image suddenly jumped out at me. Those cereal bits really are creepy!
