Introducing The Empty Bowl Podcast!

Is separating your Reese’s Puffs into a two-toned sepia yin yang not bringing you peace?

Do you find Raisin Bran Crunch ASMR compilations more terrifying than tranquil?

And have therapists dismissed your destructive desire to go cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs?

If so, there’s a solution for you! I’m proud to help debut The Empty Bowl podcast. Hosted by me and advice-guru turned cereal-yogi Justin McElroy (of My Brother, My Brother & Me fame), this is a meditative podcast about cereal, designed to help you focus on the sense of slowed-down zen that comes with a well-proportioned bowl of morning cereal.

From the first clink of cereal in the bowl to the last slurp of endmilk, eating cereal is a calming ritual, and The Empty Bowl’s news recaps, mini reviews, and exciting variety segments aim to fill it with a calming white noise (the dairy kind, of course).

In our maiden cereal voyage, Justin and I discuss Monster Cereals, Malt-O-Meal & Cold Stone Creamery’s recent Our Strawberry Blonde, and the curious case of Cherry Vanilla Cheerios—here’s the YouTube video from that segment, just to make sure you see it in your nightmares later:

The show is available on a multitude of platforms you can discover from our hub on Anchor—I look forward to sharing more episodes soon!

I’d love to hear your feedback on the show so far, and if you have segment recommendations, feel free to send them our way in the comments or on Twitter.

And thank you all for supporting this blog for so long that I’m able to do this—at this rate we’ll have Cerealously’s Cutthroat Pantry on the Food Network by 2020, and Cerealously 4D: The Interactive VR Digestive Journey at Epcot by 2022.

But until then, feel free to ditch the essential Cap’n Crunch oils and lend us your ears!

  1. Thanks for making this podcast. I’ve recently discovered it, and, in accordance with obsessive nature and not wanting to miss out, I’ve started from One. Now on Eighteen, it’s become part of my ‘time to fall asleep’ ritual. With the exception One and Two, I haven’t actually listened to an entire episode, but I think that’s okay, and I don’t think that would hurt your feelings to know that. Thanks for aurally tucking me into bed.

  2. I was just going nuts trying to find a new cereal that I was convinced was real, only to be very sad to realize that it was a listener submission from this podcast. Now I just really want Tim Tams Cereal.

  3. I love this podcast! Which led to me learning about your website.
I have a question: I live in Canada, and we do not have many of these cereals. I’m looking at ways to buy a box of some to try, but if you know of the best way please let me know!
Also, I heard about Golden Girls cereal and am freaking out, and news??

  4. I already promised (instagram) to listen to this episode, while still waking up with my coffee in one hand and my cereal spoon in the other (bowl full of cereal right in front of me btw; otherwise this would look pretty werid… xD) and i’ve to congratulate you. It was really nice episode and i liked listen to it, while eating my cereal and browsing through the daily news 🙂

BTW: I was really surprised by your deep and dark voice. And please don’t get me wrong here. It was a positive surprise. Though you and Justin kinda sound similar, your voice seems to be made for a podcast. Was nice listening to it, i just never thought your voice would sound like this xD :blushes:

I’m looking forward to the next episode, keep up the good podcast work. 🙂

    Cheers!

    • Haha, I’m glad you think so! I’ve long been self conscious of my voice, hence why I have hitherto stayed away from any recorded media. But I’m getting more comfortable with practice!

      • You shouldn’t have! Though i’m sure everyone cringe when he hears his own voice xD

I’m glad you realized the idea of a podcast anyways. 🙂
As i said i was just not expecting such a deep vioce. 🙂
I’m looking forward to next episode and just let me say this again: your vioce a perfect podcast vioce, no need to feel uncomfottable. 🙂

        CHEERS!
