News: General Mills Introduces a Trix “Rabbit Showdown” Competition

General Mills Trix Rabbit Showdown

Fall is approaching, which means I’m Counting down the days until I get to share the annual cereal news that I’m—quite Frankly—Berry excited about. The kind of news that no one would ever Boo.

But for now: let’s talk about Trix!

You may remember how earlier this year, General Mills chose an “Honorary Real Trix Rabbit” out of many hopeful contestants. Now the winner, Cinnabun, appears to have taken on the role of Olympic recruiter. From now until August 19th, General Mills’ Rabbit Showdown competition is looking for videos of the country’s most athletic rabbits. And if you needed a good reason to enter, the prize sounds pretty fluffing sweet:

General Mills Trix Rabbit Showdown Boxes

See, this is why the competition excites me. I’m a sucker for new packaging design, and the three winners of the Rabbit Showdown will get to appear on boxes with some of the cereal aisle’s most recognizable celebrities. It’s always been a dream of mine to be immortalized in cardboard while high-fiving Sonny the Cuckoo, so now I guess I have to learn one of those Harry Potter transfiguration spells.

Or at least just ask my doctor how many Cadbury Eggs I have to eat to be biologically classified as a rabbit. Continue reading

News: General Mills Chooses Its Honorary “Real Trix Rabbit”

Say it with us now: “Aww!”

That’s right, if you recall about 3 months ago, General Mills came up with a not-so-harebrained scheme to crowdsource a new Trix Rabbit. Cereal lovers everywhere were invited to send in picks of their aspiring little bunnies—bunnies who were hungrier for fame than they were carrots.

And now the winner has been crowned. His name is Cinnabun, and he beat out 7,600 other rabbits to take the title. This floppy-eared cutie was rewarded with a celebration at his local Texas Kroger and a limited batch of cereal boxes bearing his adorable likeness.

This batch of boxes was apparently just for the event, though, so for those hoping to see Cinnabun in their cereal aisle: we’re sorry. And for those hoping we’d get a limited edition cinnamon bun-flavored Trix cereal: we’re really sorry (eat some Cinnabon cereal to fill the void). But for those just hoping to see a cute picture of a rabbit: you’re welcome.

Now say this one with us: “Silly Cinnabun, Trix are for kids!”

Review: Trix Cereal without Artificial Flavors & Colors

IMG_4153Times change, friends.

When they debuted in 1955, Trix were in spherical shapes. But in the 1990s, they became the fruit-shaped pieces that many today insist they always have been. It wasn’t until 2007 that Trix became spheres once more, and the fruit-shapes were left to populate every single BuzzFeed “Top 25 Foods from our Childhood that We Want Back NOW! You Won’t BELIEVE #12!” article from now until eternity.

Oh, and apparently fruit-shaped Trix are still a thing in Mexico. I smell a fruit-scented roadtrip!

And now that General Mills has removed artificial colors and flavors from Trix, some are, again, mourning the loss of a childhood staple. But wait! Back when they debuted, Trix only came in orange, lemon, and raspberry flavors! As these artificial color-free Trix adopt a similar color scheme, it can be said that the cereal really has come full circle.

Or should I say full sphere?

Either way, I’m here to answer the hard-hitting question that you, your family, and probably even the United Nations have been debating: will they taste the same as”regular” Trix? Continue reading

Spooned & Spotted: Trix Cereal without Artificial Colors

IMG_0269Whether you heard about it or not, these are groundbreaking times for cereal. Why is that?

Because the ground is breaking with all the people upset about the loss of artificial colorings in General Mills cereals. Okay, maybe no one’s really all that upset about it, but as someone who has always valued the opportunity to pour bowl after bowl of technicolor, spherical rainbows, this is going to take some adjusting. Special: Ranking General Mills’ Star Wars Cereal Boxes!

IMG_4142

Ready your bowls, cereal Jedis!

Here at Cerealously, it’s our goal to represent the entire diverse spectrum of the cereal galaxy. So straight off of our review of a Kashi cereal, it’s time to go to Kashyyyk, as we take a more in-depth look at the Star Wars mash-up cereal boxes offered by General Mills to promote the upcoming release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The boxes combine classic Star Wars images with the cereal characters you know and love, squeezing the two universes tighter together than a Death Star trash compactor.

And yes, I know, this is the third time I’ve mentioned them, but if you can Force yourself through one last post, I promise I’ll put my awakened fanboy-ism back to sleep. Because this time I’m going to rank them from worst to best on a carefully developed scale of “Jar Jar Binks to Emperor’s Royal Guard.”

Come on, you can’t tell me those cloaked red dudes aren’t the most badass characters in the Lucas-verse.

My midichlorian count must be pretty high lately (I have been consuming a lot of midi-calories from all this cereal), because General Mills’ PR team was generous enough to send me a care package of these cereals. And it was done at warp speed, too! Whoever their delivery guy is, he could probably beat Han in the Kessel Run. So without further adieu, let’s count ’em down! Continue reading
