News: The Return of Star Wars Cereal

Star Wars Cereal 2019 Rise of Skywalker

Hey you: yeah, you!

Do you love cereal as much as Han Solo knows Leia loves him?

Do you find yourself hyperdriving through boring, terrestrial cereals without a dent in your appetite?

Has your stomach ever rumbled so hard that you wondered whether there was a hypothermic Jedi warming himself inside you?

Well then you may be in luck: General Mills is teaming up with Lucasfilms again to bring back Star Wars Cereal. The last time we saw this stuff was in 2015/16, when it debuted in boxes bearing Yoda, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Rey and BB-8. After The Force Awakens, we didn’t get anything special for The Last Jedi. But now that The Rise of Skywalker is looming like a metropolitan cloud formation, we’re getting updated boxes featuring BB-8 and new droid D-O (who looks like a mobile megaphone), alongside Kylo Ren and a “red Sith Trooper” (who looks like a more vanilla Emperor’s Royal Guard).

Granted, this cereal really isn’t anything special: it’s a generic corn base with the same ol’, largely inscrutable marbit Darth Rorschachs.

But if you’re a die-hard Star Wars fan or the parent of one, you’ll probably want to sneak some of this into theaters this December—in a milk-filled fanny pack, of course.  Just don’t expect the back of the box to be anything but a watered-down version of those Star Wars Cross-Section books.

Spooned & Spotted (Canada): General Mills Star Wars Boxes & Post Football Boxes

Canadian Star Wars Cheerios Box Darth Vader

“Hut, hut…Jabba the Hutt, hike!”

While America’s northern neighbors may not get a lot of the exclusive flavors we get in the States (I’m dedicating my Orange CreamPop Crunch box to you, Canada), they sure do get a lot of cool cereal package designs.

Take these bold Star Wars Cheerios boxes—presumably released in anticipation of this winter’s Rogue One—for example. While in the U.S., we merely got General Mills Mascots redesigned in Star Wars garb for The Force Awakens, Canadian breakfasters get to make eye contact with Darth Vader himself.

Now I just want to see Buzz the Bee face off against the Sith Lord. While my money’s on Anakin, Buzz’s wings do give him the higher ground.

But it isn’t just lightsabers that’ll be gracing Canadian kitchen tables. They get linebackers, too. Continue reading

Happy Star Wars Day! New Star Wars Cereal Boxes on the Way from General Mills

*Cue Star Wars opening credits crawl music*

It is a dark time for the Internet. Although Star Wars Day comes every year on May 4th, corporate Twitter accounts from Hostess to Little Caesars continue to nauseatingly repeat the exact same “May the Fourth be with you” joke all across Twitter and Facebook.

Bringing some substance to this dreaded unoriginality, a group of cereal freedom fighters led by General Mills plans to release two new Star Wars Cereal boxes onto cereal shelves, for the aesthetic betterment of pantries everywhere.

The whiny emo Kylo Ren, obsessed with angst and probably old Nirvana albums, graces one of the boxes, while the heroic Rey lights up the other in a dazzling blue that reminds a certain cereal blogger of those awesome Go-Gurt tubes released for the prequels…

For those keeping score at home, there are now exactly enough Star Wars Cereal variants for you to binge eat a different one while binge watching each Star Wars movie: Darth Vader, Yoda, a different Kylo Ren (with his lightsaber), BB-8, and R2-D2 round out the seven total boxes.

Good luck trying to “Catch ‘Em All!”

Whoops, wrong series.

Special: A Look at New Star Wars Decal Cereal Prizes

IMG_4364Cereal boxes don’t have enough prizes any more. Read that in an angry old man voice if you want to, but I miss the days when every cereal box bottom harbored some secret treasure: a wrist watch, a plastic toy, or perhaps even a Cap’n Crunch whistle that could be used for hacking phone lines.

General Mills must feel that way too, because select boxes of their cereal, including Cheerios, Multi Grain Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Cookie Crisp now contain collectible, sticky Star Wars decals. Aside from the exciting thrill of the cereal aisle hunt (even Boba Fett would have fun tracking every decal down), the other half of the fun with these is finding creative places to stick them. Whether it’s your fridge, laptop, car, cat,  resume, or future tombstone, everything looks better with a giant C-3PO on it.

I have that last part listed in my will.

General Mills did send me and some other Star Wars junkies these six decals of Chewbacca, BB-8, C-3PO/R2D2, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, and a Stormtrooper (is that you, TR-8R?), but apparently there’s an extra super rare Millennium Falcon decal out there in boxes of Reese’s Puffs. If you’ve seen it, let me know!

But for now: Chewie, fire up the hyperdrive, because we’re about to make the Meijer Run in under 12 parsecs.

Special: Ranking General Mills’ Star Wars Cereal Boxes!

Ready your bowls, cereal Jedis!

Here at Cerealously, it’s our goal to represent the entire diverse spectrum of the cereal galaxy. So straight off of our review of a Kashi cereal, it’s time to go to Kashyyyk, as we take a more in-depth look at the Star Wars mash-up cereal boxes offered by General Mills to promote the upcoming release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The boxes combine classic Star Wars images with the cereal characters you know and love, squeezing the two universes tighter together than a Death Star trash compactor.

And yes, I know, this is the third time I’ve mentioned them, but if you can Force yourself through one last post, I promise I’ll put my awakened fanboy-ism back to sleep. Because this time I’m going to rank them from worst to best on a carefully developed scale of “Jar Jar Binks to Emperor’s Royal Guard.”

Come on, you can’t tell me those cloaked red dudes aren’t the most badass characters in the Lucas-verse.

My midichlorian count must be pretty high lately (I have been consuming a lot of midi-calories from all this cereal), because General Mills’ PR team was generous enough to send me a care package of these cereals. And it was done at warp speed, too! Whoever their delivery guy is, he could probably beat Han in the Kessel Run. So without further adieu, let’s count ’em down! Continue reading

Spooned & Spotted: Star Wars Cereal Boxes from Post Canada and General Mills

12191756_1510895635887916_5720367595174520083_nIf you’re an American fan of cereal, Star Wars, or both (and really, who isn’t a fan of both?), it might be time to Force your way over the northern border, because Post Foods in Canada has released a line of 7 limited edition boxes to promote the upcoming release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which is set to release this December.

Man, I’m not sure which I’m more excited for anymore: the holiday season, or the holi-Dagobah season.
