News: Eggo Cereal Officially Returns in Maple & Blueberry

Official Kellogg's Maple Eggo Cereal Review

Could you imagine if there was a new Super Smash Bros. game, and the first characters they announced were like, Birdo, Tingle and Doshin the Giant? And then two months later they drop a cryptic trailer confirming that Mario will be playable this time around?

Yeah, that was the kind of anachronistic vibe I got when news of Blueberry Eggo Cereal dropped some time ago, not long after Eggo got the necessary 10,000 retweets to bring the cereal back. Sure, blueberry and maple is fun, but a) Cap’n Crunch already dropped a passable combo like that, and b) the world has been lost in a haze of log-cabin fever for too long now, after the unjust and untimely death of Waffle Crisp.

See you, griddled cowboy ;__;

Official Kellogg's Blueberry Eggo Cereal Review

The web was awash with compote’d contemplations, but the status of plain ol’ Maple Eggo Cereal was uncertain—until yesterday, when Kellogg’s dropped official images of both flavors.

Personally, the one thing that I’m conflicted about when it comes to Eggo Cereal(s), it’s the shape. Sure, the original Eggo Cereal was round, and by and large I respect the shape’s service to our breakfast. But at the same time, the recent goodness of Malt-O-Meal’s similarly sculpted Peanut Butter Cookie Bites has left me further longing for Waffle Crisp’s imperfect cuboids—to take another palate-piercing from a wafflet’s grainy corner would be an honor.

Well, there’s also O.G. Eggos Cereal’s official new name: Maple Flavored Homestyle, which, unlike Blueberry, isn’t as haiku-friendly, and which also sounds like a clever way to admit there’s no real syrup in these suckers, so no lawsuit-hungry consumer can say they were taken for suckers.

Regardless, I’m hoping to give both of these cereals a try very soon. Likewise, you can expect them in stores…very soon. And let me just say in advance: if there’s ever been a time to ‘break the seal’ on drizzling real maple syrup over appropriate cereals, there’s no better time to turn Eggo Cereal’s sweetness up to eleven.

  1. I can’t wait for this, especially with Waffle Crisp cereal being discontinued, which, like the original Rice Krispies Treats Cereal being discontinued, is a big disservice. Kelloggs can now enjoy this one with zero competition.
