News: Another Cereal News Round-Up!

New Nutty Buddy Cereal

Just as the world keeps spinning, the new cereal world keeps on spooning—whether or not I’m able to keep up with it! Here’s a quick look at the big headlines that’ve cropped up (get it, because…grains?) these past couple weeks.

First up we have the obvious headliner above. For awhile, I’ve wondered whether Little Debbie and Kellogg’s would expand their line of snack cake-inspired cereals that started with Oatmeal Creme Pies Cereal and Cosmic Brownies Cereal—and if so, which of Deb’s iconic processed goodies would get the spotlight next.

Now, thanks to @steelbookobsessed on Instagram, we have the likely answer. While it’s still in the unconfirmed sampling phase, Nutty Buddy Cereal seems like a smart choice, and hopefully one that will evolve the shallow cocoa powdery taste of the Cosmic Brownies Cereal. Yes, CBC was pretty mediocre and sparsely flavored, while OCP was an agreeable, heavily powdered cinna–molasses affair, so there’s no telling where Nutty Buddy may land on that continuum.

One thing’s for sure, though: the pieces look like (fittingly dairy-ready) Milk Bones.

Next up we have possibly the most benign new cereal in recent memory. It’s Trix…just plain ol’ Trix…but it turns your milk…pink? A color that Trix already kind of tints your milk?

I’m really not sure what General Mills is going for with this one—maybe they’re just hopping on the “pink sauce” bandwagon. Either way, this is a certified Silly Rabbit Moment™.

A touch more interesting is this Trix Popcorn, coming soon to Sam’s Club. I really dug the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Popcorn that came out, as well as Cap’n Crunch’s spin on Smartfood from a couple years back, so I have no reason to doubt this will be a stellar late-summer beach snack—a beach snack worthy of engaging seagulls in hand-to-wing combat in order to defend, at that.

Finally, we’ve got this scrumptious sight of an early Halloween cereal drop. Halloween Fruity Pebbles may taste just like their traditional, non-Pagan variant, but the orange and purple coloring on this one has me itching to exchange the sunscreen for fake blood already.

Plus, this is a rare instance of Fred and Pebbles herself getting some father–daughter box art time—even if it gives off the appearance that Pebborah just whacked her vampiric father with a branch to the point of giving him a black eye. Oh well, at least it wasn’t a stake to the heart.

Which of these upcoming releases are you most excited for?
