Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Nut & Honey Crunch and Cröonchy Stars Cereal

*Raises right hand*

I, Dan G. of Cerealously, formally swear to make it through this entire post without making any juvenile “nuts” jokes.

Okay, now that we’ve finished all the formalities, let’s put our honey where our mouth is. It’s that time again: time to share the latest two videos in cereal honcho Gabe Fonseca’s YouTube series. Cereal Time covers a different cereal each week, and each episode is sure to teach you more than your middle school American History class ever did.

The first episode we’d like to share with you covers Kellogg’s Nut & Honey Crunch cereal. Despite the simplicity of its name and ingredients, you’d be surprised just how complicated this cereal’s history is. Continue reading

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Honey Bunches of Oats and Sugar Smacks Cereal

Well, looks like it’s time to renew my monthly subscription to HBO. And no, I’m not talking about getting my Game of Thrones fix—I mean Honey Bunches of Oats! With two new episodes in cereal squire Gabe Fonseca’s Cereal Time YouTube series, we wanted to share both with you. Cereal Time takes an in-depth look at a different cereal lineage each week, and it’s chock full of vitamins, minerals, and occasionally King Vitaman.

Honey Bunches of Oats takes the honey-soaked stage first. As Gabe describes, Honey Bunches of Oats have humble beginnings, ever since 1986 when good ol’ Vernon Herzing first mixed 4 different Post cereals into a single Frankenstein’s cereal monster (not to be confused with Franken Berry, of course). Honey Bunches first started as “Battle Creek Cereal,” and even though I’m a Michigan native and would have loved for that name to catch on, it was the much more literal “Honey Bunches of Oats” that finally stuck (both literally and metaphorically: honey is sticky!).

Maybe “Battle Creek Cereal” sounds too much like a cereal killer horror movie. Continue reading

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Ghostbusters and Cabbage Patch Kids Cereal

When there’s something cool, in your breakfast pantry…who you gonna call?

Gabe Fonseca!

That’s right, cereal specialist Gabe Fonseca is back with two new videos in his Cereal Time YouTube series that we’d like to share with you. For the unfortunately uninitiated, Cereal Time covers a different retro, obscure, or legendary cereal each week, and each video is chock-full of fun and flavor (you’ll have to imagine the flavor; please don’t pour milk on your keyboard). Continue reading

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Grins & Smiles & Giggles & Laughs and Ice Cream Cones Cereal

Do you need a smile or an ice cream cone to get you through today’s dreaded series of 24 grueling hours (a.k.a. Monday)? Well all of my fellow human Garfields out there need not despair, because thanks to the latest two videos in cereal MVP Gabe Fonseca’s YouTube series, you can see a whole bowl full of ’em!

Cereal Time is a video series dedicated to highlighting a different classic, new, or retro cereal each week. For a series that has given me countless chuckles and snickers, it seems appropriate that the first video we’d like to share with you is all about Grins & Smiles & Giggles & Laughs cereal. Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca — Batman vs. Superman, Just Right, and Basic 4 Cereals

Need a superhero who can save you from afternoon boredom?

Well fear no more, concerned citizen, because Captain Cereal Time (secret identity: Gabe Fonseca) has released two new videos in his YouTube series that we’d like to share with you.

Though most of you are probably already aware, in the Cereal Time series, Gabe drops fun, historical, and nostalgic knowledge bombs about different cereals each week.

Speaking of which, I wonder when he’ll cover Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs?

The above video features Gabe’s take on General Mills’ buzz-worthy new Batman vs. Superman Cereals. (Gee, I wonder where he managed to find the boxes? 😉)

And while Gabe’s opinion on who won this “cereal clash of the titans” differs from mine, I can still respect it. Because, let’s be honest here, both of these superhero cereals are tasty enough to have blockbuster movies made about them.

They could even bring back George Clooney. After all, he already knows a thing or two about playing a cardboard, lifeless Batman. Continue reading

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Shrek Cereal and “Cereal of the Month”

Stop right there, dear reader!

Stop and check yourself!

You better check yourself before you…Shrek yourself!

And why is that? Because we would hate for you to miss the latest two entries in cereal maven Gabe Fonseca’s Cereal Time YouTube series. His videos have more layers of fun and nostalgia than an onion, a cake, and an ogre combined!

The first video we’d like to share details the rich and marshmallowy history of Shrek branded cereals. And while our days of seeing new movies featuring this ogre may be over, it’s fun to look back at just how many cereals he’s had his name attached to.

From the standard oats and marbits mix to a box of particularly green bootleg Froot Loops, Shrek has had some pretty appetizing cereals…which is surprising for a character who bathes in the swamp!

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Honey Nut Cheerios with Florida Honey and Olympics Cereals

Are you hungry to unwrap a couple early Christmas presents? Well look no further than the latest two entries we want to share from modern day cereal Santa Claus Gabe Fonseca’s (by “cereal Santa Claus, I mean in terms of giving great gifts, not in terms of appearance, of course 😉) Cereal Time YouTube series. Cereal Time provides a list of nostalgic and fun cereal tribute videos that’s longer than Santa’s naughty list after Happy Hour.

The first video to share is about a very special box of Honey Nut Cheerios. And no, I don’t mean that lucky box of Cheerios that you ate for breakfast on the same morning you won $500 on a scratch off ticket.

I’m sure that video’s coming later.

No, this rare box of HNC was made with genuine Florida honey and was released as a tie-in with a recent campaign in which General Mills made a “living billboard” filled with bees (sounds like the start of a bad Nicolas Cage horror movie). These boxes were given out to a select few lucky recipients, including Gabe. You’ll have to watch to see what he thinks of this now mythic, one of a kind honey talisman!

Oh, and guess who’s still unhappily buzzing about not getting a box? Continue reading

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: A Trip to General Mills & Pokémon Cereal

Pour a towering bowl of stale, decades-old Waffelos and gather round, everyone, because cereal pundit Gabe Fonseca has two new videos in his nostalgic and historic Cereal Time YouTube series that we’d like to share with you!

The first is a bit different from Gabe’s other Cereal Time videos; instead of giving an extensive rundown on the history and flavor of a specific cereal, we viewers are taken on a magical journey field trip to General Mills’ cereal archive! It’s like getting a candid, behind the scenes look at the Oval Office or the making of a Hollywood blockbuster…but 10 times better because this one involves Wackies and Sugaroos!

Which old cereal from this video would you all most like to try (or try again after many years)? As a Golden Grahams fan, the idea of eating Peanut Butter Grahams really butters my proverbial biscuit! Continue reading
